Sebastián Cruz started performing and composing at age 16 in Colombia with various rock bands playing in local venues and city festivals.
Since moving to New York in 1997, Sebastián performs, arranges and composes regularly with traditional and contemporary Colombian music ensembles including "La Cumbiamba Eneyé," "Pablo Mayor's Folklore Urbano" -appearing on their CDs- with "Clásicos del despecho en la voz de Lucía Pulido," and with "Coba" which he leads. He is also musical director, since 2004, for Palenque, Lucía Pulido's Colombian music project.
Sebastián has performed throughout New York City in such venues as BAM Café, CultureFest at Battery Park, Central Park's Summer Stage, Symphony Space, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Joe's Pub, Knitting Factory and Galapagos artspace.
Sebastián is currently enrolled towards his Master's degree at Manhattan School of Music. He holds a BFA from the City College of New York where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. As a composer he has written music for theater, short films and documentaries, including the feature film "Buscando a Miguel," and Holly Page Joyner's "Pack, Strap, Swallow" for Sundance Channel. In 2002 Sebastián won an ASCAP award for the composition of a song for theatre.
